New Category Release!

I decided to make a "Recipes" category and move some posts from "Diet" to "Recipes." My rational is that it would be easier to see the collective recipes in one group rather than have it mixed in with my random "Diet" information.

You can find the category all the way at the bottom left hand corner of the web page or simply click:

Cottage Cheese

Here are some fast and easy cottage cheese recipes that I picked up over the web. I want to try most of them. These are the easiest recipes that have very low preparation time. Just add:

  • Black Pepper [Try with baby carrots] - Tried with some nasty really sour Sam's club brand cottage cheese... It "kinda" masks the taste, but not really. Not too big of a taste difference.
  • Chili
  • Black Pepper + Tuna - Sure it'll taste the same as with just Tuna. Has my approval.
  • Cinnamon - I always add a TSP of Cinnamon/a TSP of Cocoa. Not too much added taste, but still a little. Helps me when cutting because I keep calories down.
  • Cucumber
  • Pepper + Scallion
  • Tabasco Sauce
  • Salsa
  • Tomatoes
  • Tomatoes + Black Pepper
  • Frozen Berries + Granola - Raspberries are a big no, too sour. Need to try with other berries. Granola is great.
  • Granola - Adds an amazing crunch and sweetness that can't be beat. One of my TOP choices.
  • Frozen Berries - Raspberries are a big no, too sour. Need to try with other berries.
  • Jam
  • Mrs. Dash
  • Raisins
  • Sliced Bananas + Cinnamon
  • Salsa + Hard Boiled Egg
  • Splenda + Strawberry sugar free jelly
  • Splenda + Cinnamon
  • Cinnamon + Splenda and Sugar Free Jelly
  • Apple Butter + Splenda
  • Pumpkin Butter + Splenda
  • Raspberries + Blackberries
  • Cocoa + Melted PB + Splenda
  • Granola + Splenda
  • Peanut Butter - Tastes fine, hard to mix.
  • Toast - Cottage cheese sandwich is great, can't hardly taste it. My seal of approval.
  • Tomato + Cucumber + Salt + Pepper
  • ½ Cantaloupe
  • Onion + Celery + Pepper + Tuna

I can't wait to try some of these.

Here is a GREAT website for more in depth recipes with cottage cheese. Click this link.

I will slowly try these recipes are school and report back on how successful I am with them. One thing to note about cottage cheese is that it is a slow releasing energy source. Generally eat this early before workouts or before bed. Not as effective as a post workout snack.

Quick and Easy

I've been experimenting with oatmeal and cottage cheese finding easy ways to make them, here are the ones that I love so far.

1 Cup Cottage Cheese + 1 Can Tuna

This recipe has low carbs + high protein. It is AMAZING. If you like fish the taste is great. Plus the calories on both ingredients are very low.

2 Slices of Whole Wheat Bread [Toasted] + Chopped Baby Carrots [4] + TSP of Cocoa Powder + 1/2 Cup of Cottage Cheese

This sandwich tastes great, it is less than 200 calories depending on the bread you choose. I used Healthy Styles 35 calorie per slice bread, it tastes great, has low calories, no fat, low sugar, and surprisingly low carbs. Great texture too with the carrots.

2 Slices of Whole Wheat Bread [Toasted] + 2 TBSP of Peanut Butter + 1/2 Cup of Cottage Cheese

If you get chunky peanut butter, the texture is unbeatable. The one downside to this meal is that 2 TBSP of peanut butter runs in the 190 calorie range. But don't worry too much because peanut butter has good fats. Just keep the amount down. 2 Tablespoons is about the size of a golfball.

1/2 Cup of Cottage Cheese + 4 TSP of Granola + 1 TSP of Cinnamon + 1 TSP of Cocoa

The texture is very good with the crunchy granola. The granola also adds a very sweet topping. It literally is like some fancy desert.

.75 Cup of Oatmeal + 1 TSP of Cinnamon + 1 TSP of Cocoa

Adds a small bit of taste to oatmeal. Nothing great, but has anti-oxidant goodness from the cocoa and hint of sugary taste from the cinnamon.

.75 Cup of Oatmeal + 2 TBSP of Peanut Butter

You've never tasted oatmeal unless you've had it with peanut butter, the mixture of taste is incredible. There is no way to describe how good it is unless you have it.

Right now I'm looking for alternative ways to eat oatmeal without peanut butter to cut down on my calories. I'll be sure to post them.
